Objective
The ever-changing nature of European society demands a high level of social skills, a prerequisite for inclusion. This is living true for all countries regardless of the stage of economic development and it affects both the people working with the youth and their target group; the young people themselves. However, the immense focus of formal education in knowledge building is leaving behind the aspect of developing skills and attitudes. With the use of non-formal learning methodologies, youth workers can support the holistic development of all young people, regardless of their school performance. The support of youth is directly addressed by the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027 towards “Engaging, Connecting and Empowering young people”. In this line, the proposed project Mastering Emotions | Towards Emotional Intelligence Learning for Youth (MASTERY) aims to address the needs of youth workers for continuous professional development with a focus on the enhancement of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and social skills of them and the general youth that they are working with, especially those performing low at school, are early school leavers, and/or NEETs. The project seeks to achieve the equal participation of young people in democratic life, targeting each of the 11 European Youth Goals separately with a focus on the promotion of youth participation, reinforcement of the quality of informal and non-formal learning processes, and development of quality youth work. Also, the proposed project comes in full alignment with European Youth Goal number 5 about Mental Health & Wellbeing.
Feedback
Participating in the Mastery Emotional Intelligence Erasmus+ project in Thessaloniki, Greece, was an incredible journey. It was heartwarming to connect with fellow participants from Finland, Greece, Poland, and Romania, sharing our emotions and life stories. The project’s mission to enhance emotional intelligence and social skills, especially among those facing educational challenges, resonated deeply with me. The mix of learning, self-expression, and fun activities created a supportive environment where we could grow personally and professionally. It felt like a step towards a more inclusive and emotionally aware society, aligned with European Youth Goals, particularly focusing on mental health. This experience left me inspired and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

My first time participating in Erasmus+ project was really inspiring. I always wanted to be a part of such project and this time I got a chance to participate and exchange knowledge with my friends from Finland, Poland, Romania and Italy. We shared our experiences and emotions on several occasions of our life. I personally really learned how to reflect on my emotions and what actual happiness is in life. I am usually shy, but everyone encouraged me to express myself. I made a lot of friends and I want to thank Tomoyo and entire organization for this wonderful opportunity. I am more than grateful to have gained valuable insights and memories from my Erasmus+ experience.
